    Closed Saturday 6th Sept:

In our yearly trail pilgrimage we are closing the store this Saturday the 6th September to take all the staff to the Netti Angry Doctor race in Batemans Bay. We figure we have to make the most of these rare riding opportunities and apologies for the inconvenience we may be causing - but the trails are soooooo sweet and its a great weekend away as a crew so we all come back refreshed and keen to help you. ( no changes - still not working on Saturday)
Weather forecast in Mogo is for clearing conditions on Sunday - Good surf and tacky trails -18deg temp
Ride tip for weekend - take it easy first 25km - singlespeeders go the 18 or 19 cog.

    Racing Wrap:
Anaconda: Christie Sym took out the recent Anaconda 2 day adventure race at Forster on the weekend with a narrow victory over Deanna Blegg. Syms is recently back from surgery took it easy on the first day, over coming a big stick mechanical to then bring it home on the second day. Check RapidAscent.com.au for all the details and next event.
Noosa 100km: Rockstar racing continues it domination of the 100km series with Hamish Elliott taking a impressive victory at the rather wet Noosa 100km. The hills turned to mud for the later finishers with valiant finished from Alex Bramford who finished without any breakages, Hugh on a singlespeed and Alissan in her 1st 100km race. see what rockstar is about at rockstarracing.com.au
Canberra Working Week: Neil and Tanya Barlow lead the CBD team with a clean appearance in the mixed pairs. They always impress with the style points and maximizing the enjoyment of the day. Chris held strong through the day to cap 7 laps but alas has been sick for the last week since. Paulie kept up Rockstar appearances and lifestyle in dark glasses all day but not always on the course. The old guys Otto, Barnes and Allen showed us all up with consistent laps all day to finish amongst the best of the gray nomad class.
Bull of Africa: Richard, Rob, Kim and Damon recently completed the 5 day adventure race in South Africa in 3rd place amongst a highly qualified international field. Racing with only 16 hours sleep over the 5 days they encountered some of the most amazing scenery, wildlife and adventure you could imagine. Richards success caps off a dynamic family podium month with better half Katrin Vanderspegal placing 2nd at the world 24hr Solo Championships. see bullofafrica.com for the full rundown

    Epic Rides:

Hot on the success of the Cape Epic, BC Bike race and Trans Alps Challenge, Australia now has its share of multi day epics. The Tasmanian Wild Side, the interiors Anaconda MTB Enduro and now three new multi day enduros. Start working on holidays and brownie point generation for these 7 day adventures.

The Alps Epic: March 15 - 19 Starting from Thredbo an 8 day epic through the best that the Snowy Mountains has to offer.http://www.alpsepic.com.au/
Mountains 2 Sea: March 1 - 6th - Covering 350km from Thredbo to the coast it will be an entertaining course and has the greatest accumulated descent of the three finishing on the North coast in Narooma.www.wildhorizons.com.au/mountainstobeach
    Terra Australias: March 29 - April 4th - Falls Creek to Wangarrata 600km - 7days and 15,000 mtrs ascent! www.alpsepic.com.auwww.alpsepic.com.au

Gee March must be a great time to be in the mountains huh. While some details on all the courses are a little light on at present they all have differing requirements as to need for support crew and transportation. Its great to see all these multi day opportunities come to the market and each will provide an amazing ride in places you would never normally travel. Looks like March is booked for the next three years at least.

    Paddling Tips:

We get plenty of first timers to adventure racing. Typically they have come from a running and cycling background. Tackled with the new sport of paddling their first though is strength and "muscle" you way through it. After learning the hard way we have found the simple technique of staying above the kayak, whilst handy, is not enough.
Technique in your paddling stroke will help you be more stable ( allowing you to paddle faster boats ), be more efficient ( use less energy ) and therefore be faster. Like most water sports paddling is all about the correct technique. Us, we are cyclists - the guys to call are ProKayaks in Narrabeen. Matt Blundell has been adventure racing for many years and holds individual tuition as well as group training. He can also supply the craft of your needs for both the lesson and to purchase. Check them at www.prokayaks.com.au.
For those looking to complete their level 2 whitewater Penrith White Water Center will be holding a quick start course again soon to maximize paddle learning time in the shortest period. Next available date is the weekends of October 18 and 25th . This is the ideal course for those wanting to do New Zealand's Coast to Coast and needing their grade 2 certificate. Contact Stuart Macintosh at instruction@penrithwhitewater.com.au for all the details.
Northbridge Kayaks is holding a winter series of 8km races in Middle Harbour every 2nd Saturday check northbridgekayaks.com for a good hit out to get the arms burning.
