  • Workshop

The CBD workshop is there to keep your beloved in tip top shape and optimum working condition. Bookings are essential as the hard working team upstairs want to ensure you have the least time off the bike as possible. For a normal service, drop it in before 10am in the morning and you can generally have it back that afternoon.

Our labour is charged out at $105.00 per hour toallow for the flexibility of not overcharging for
simple jobs through a flat fee arrangement.

All prices listed are labour charge only - obviously replacement and spare parts are extra.

    Test Rides:

The aim of any service is to make sure your bike is ready to ride - we have a dual check system in that all bikes are test ridden by two mechanics to ensure we do not miss anything. If we find something expensive, rest assured we shall call you before we fix it.

    Chain Wear:

The most common question is when to replace the chain. Chains stretch over time depending on use and riding conditions. Once stretched more than 1% of its total length it will cause the cluster (gears) to wear unevenly and result in skipping and jumping if you then try to put a new chain on. Worn chains also result in slower shifting and noisy drivetrains. Use a chain checker and replace your chain on a regular basis.

    Suspension Servicing:

City Bike Depot’s crew of mechanics have been to Cannondale, Fox and Rockshox service schools with extensive experience with Marzocchi and Manitou suspension. Most work on front suspension we can do in house (including the Cannondale lefty and headshock) to ensure the fastest possible turn around for your toy.

Rear suspension air seals we can do in house, however oil related issues we have to returen to the disctributors as they are highly pressurised units and need to be handled by the proper authorities.

Suspension is recommended by the manufacturers to be serviced on a regular basis to maintan their warranty schedule.
                            Front        Rear
    Manitou        30 hours    6 months
Rock Shox    50 hours    6 Months
    Fox                60 hours    6 months

Labour charge for fork services is $105.00 per hour plus parts and Oil.

How often should you service your bike?

If your commuting every day then possibly every 3 months. For the occasional ride on the weekend then only every 6 - 8 months. Keeping your bike clean and correctly lubed will go long way to keeping your bike out of our workshop.

    Disc Brake Servicing:

Poor lever feel and braking noise in discs is often as simple as a sticky piston or contaminated pads. The crew can find and solve many disc brake issues in house from a simple piston lube to full lever rebuild.  Its suggested that  you change the oil every 12 months in disc brakes to maintain optimum lever feel and power.

Most simple bleeds and adjustments only need 30 – 40 minutes.

    Bike Cleaning:

Keeping your bike clean will go a long way to keeping it out of the workshop and working well. Bikes like people get a little grumpy when left unwashed for too long. For the drivetrain use Citrus Degreaser with a chain machine works best and is the cleanest. Then with a bucket of warm water and bike wash scrub bike with a soft bristled brush (dust pan brush works well) Rinse with a light hose and clean water then towel dry. Relube chain as per lube instructions.
