Congratulations Katrin http://www.citybikedepot.com.au/Hub/news?id=81 Katrin only decided 6 months ago after competing in XPD in May that she would again take on the World 24hr Champs this year in Canberra. Some intense training followed and with teh support of Cannondale and CBD she was back on a new Scalpel and ready for action.
Katrins race was flawless staying at her own pace early while many of the girls fought it out at the front with hot laps during the day. By the late afternoon the scene had been set for a great showdown with the top 5 girls all within 30 minutes of each other.
Vanina Vergose was lapping consistentantly and was well in the charge only 20 minutes down on Katrin who at this stage was locked into 5th place and movign through the ranks.

By night fall the track started to take its toll. Jessica who had set the early - chase me pace,  had baced off a bit and some of the other girls brigded the gap to even take the lead. Jessicia consolidated and tapped out consistent laps to build a 30 minute lead by 3am and was consistently 2 minutes faster than Katrin on teh night laps.

Katrin meanwhile had stayed solid and despite a couple of small offs moved through the pack to second place by 3am holding down a gap of 25 minutes to first p[laced Jessicia.

At 5am we thought Jessicia had just put in a few hot laps and was looking good - we expected she should drop at about 8.30 given the night pace. Katrin took up the pace again at daybreak with only 3 laps to go started to bring teh gap down. At 5 minutes a lap it was impressie but not enough as Jessica maintained her pace to hold on to a 12 minute lead at the final gong.

katrin raced brillantly and left it all on the track being completly spent at the end. it was an real race to the wire and a great effort by Jessica who was deserving of the Gold medal and an impressive Silver by Katrin who gave it her all.

Hugh Stodart Takes GOLD http://www.citybikedepot.com.au/Hub/news?id=86 Hugh Stodart took his understated race style to the top of the podium again with GOLD in the Solo mens age group 40-45. Starting hard and staying consistent the desiel that is Hugh onyl had a few minor shakes early in the night dropping to 2nd as a hard charging Canberra local picked up teh pace on ly to drop off with a ill timed ashma attack due to the dusty conditions.

Hugh's high tech timing and brother Duncan kept it togther for a smooth ride al the way through to maintain his 15 minute lead on 2nd through the new day adn to the finish line.

its hard to comment on how his race really went as we never really saw or heard from him all night, lap, eat, food, drink, another lap, just keep on keeping on.
Nice work hugh and congratulations on a well deserved gold.

Impressive efforts at the World 24hr http://www.citybikedepot.com.au/Hub/news?id=91 Arron Pearson overcame bike tragedy the week before to ride consistently despite crashing into the only tree on Stromlo - during the day, to mark a great race in the top 10 in his class. His new Yeti Big top went flawlessly and even stayed on the car for the trip back unlike his unlucky cannondale the week before.

Vanina Vergose rode an exceptional race before a early morning crash took out one knee whilst avoiding another rider. The next lap another rider in the same location and another knee. Despite forging on for another 3 laps the knees locked up and turned a pretty shade of blue and purple bringing a premeture end to an otherwise excellent race. Vanina had been lapping in the top 6 womens only 30 - 40 minutes behined 1st place and was on target to follow Katrin on her move through the field.  She now ramps up for the world Single speed camps in New Zealand in 2 weeks.

Sam Wormington stayed awake and on the bike for 24 hours unlike his counterparts and the consistency showed with a top 11 finish in Singlespeed. Hard man Brett Bellchambers took the class out with a top 10 overall finish.
